Who’s ready to celebrate the holidays? I am — especially now that I’ve perfected this easy homemade eggnog. It’s rich, luxuriously creamy, and has just the right amount of boozy warmth to make any gathering feel festive.
Eggnog is a classic holiday beverage, and this version uses the traditional ingredients: fresh eggs, cream, whole milk, sugar, rum, bourbon, nutmeg and a touch of cinnamon. Everything blends together quickly in a Vitamix for an ultra-smooth texture and consistent flavor.

This recipe uses fresh, raw eggs — a traditional approach that produces a creamy, authentic eggnog. The alcohol helps reduce any food-safety concerns because it limits bacterial growth; still, use the freshest eggs you can find and store the eggnog in the refrigerator. I usually pick the freshest dozen from the back of the grocery cooler and make the eggnog within 24 hours.

This recipe calls for two spirits — white rum and a good-quality bourbon. Together they give the eggnog depth and warmth without letting either spirit dominate. Combined with the milk and cream, the result is balanced and festive.
For an extra-smooth finish, I blend everything in a Vitamix. Chilling the eggnog right in the blender makes it easy to store and pour when guests arrive. When serving, I garnish each glass with a fresh grate of nutmeg and a cinnamon stick for a classic holiday presentation.

Make ahead tip: the eggnog benefits from resting in the fridge overnight, which lets the flavors meld and the texture firm up slightly. It will keep refrigerated for up to three days; give it a quick 10-second blend before serving if it has settled.

Ingredients
- 6 fresh large eggs
- 3/4 cup (150 g) fine sugar (or granulated)
- 2 cups (472 ml) heavy cream
- 1 cup (236 ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (118 ml) white rum
- 1/2 cup (118 ml) bourbon
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Cinnamon stick for garnish
Instructions
- Add the fresh whole eggs to your Vitamix blender and blend on low speed (variable 1) for 30 seconds. With the blender running, add the sugar and blend another 20 seconds until smooth.
- Turn the blender off, then add the heavy cream, whole milk, rum, bourbon, nutmeg and cinnamon. Blend on medium speed (variable 4) for about 10–15 seconds until everything is combined.
- Secure the lid and refrigerate the eggnog overnight or up to three days. Chilling lets the flavors meld and the drink thicken slightly.
- When ready to serve, give the eggnog a quick 10-second blend on variable 4 to recombine. Pour into glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.
