Top Game-Day Recipes for Football Season

If you’re on Facebook, please click the little Like button above, thanks!

This morning I asked on the Southern Plate Facebook Page if there were any upcoming events in the football world and got a flood of responses: Gators, Bulldogs, Tigers, Eagles, Dawgs, Knights, Elephants, Colts, Rebels, Ducks, Vols, Falcons and even Huskers (I asked if they shuck corn — I’m there!). Clearly football season is underway. I later learned at least one team even has a bunny mascot!

When it comes to game day, I’m on the side of any fans who love to serve good food. With that in mind, here are recipes that are perfect for tailgating, game-watching parties, or any time you want crowd-pleasing dishes.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork BBQ

Pulled pork on a bun is pretty much heaven. Every region does barbecue a little differently; where I’m from it’s smoked and juicy and often served with a light clear vinegar sauce. Slow cooker pulled pork is an easy, hands-off way to get tender, shreddable meat for sandwiches, sliders, or a hearty platter.

Ribs in the Oven

Tender Babyback Ribs – in the oven!

These baby back ribs bake in the oven until they’re fall-off-the-bone tender and glazed with a flavorful barbecue sauce. They’re easy to prepare ahead of time and reheat well, making them a great main for a Southern-style supper or game day spread.

Little Smokies in a blanketLittle Pigs in A Blanket

Simple and beloved: little smokies wrapped in flaky crescent rolls. With just two ingredients you’ll have a classic Southern appetizer that disappears fast at parties. They’re portable, easy to bake, and kid-approved.

Homemade Pizza Sticks

Stuffed Pizza Sticks

Stuffed pizza sticks are perfect for game day snacking: crispy dough filled with gooey cheese and your favorite toppings. They’re easy to hold, quick to make, and ideal for crowd-pleasing finger food while cheering on your team.
