There’s nothing better than a quick dinner that’s on the table in under 15 minutes — which is why this Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas recipe is one of my go-tos. Thinly sliced boneless, skinless chicken breast is tossed with bell peppers and onions, seasoned with a simple homemade fajita spice blend, and cooked in the air fryer for a fast, flavorful meal.
This recipe is flexible. Serve the fajitas in warm tortillas with sour cream, guacamole, and cilantro for a classic presentation, or keep it low-carb by serving over lettuce or cauliflower rice. You can also enjoy it on its own as a protein-forward main dish.
Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas Recipe
Ingredients
- Chicken breasts
- Bell peppers
- Onion
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Sugar
- Chili powder
- Cumin
- Smoked paprika
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Cayenne pepper (optional)
- Lime juice
Serving Ingredients
- Tortilla shells (corn or flour)
- Sour cream
- Cilantro
- Guacamole
Instructions
Start by slicing the chicken breasts into thin strips about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. One large chicken breast will typically make two servings.
Slice the bell peppers and onion into long, thin strips. I like using one green and one red pepper for color and flavor, but any combination of bell peppers works — use what you have on hand.

Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes. Even if your model doesn’t require preheating, this step helps create that satisfying sizzle when the ingredients hit the basket.
In a large bowl, combine the chicken strips, sliced peppers, onion, and olive oil. Toss with tongs until everything is evenly coated in oil.
Homemade Fajita Seasoning
Mix the seasoning in a small bowl: salt, sugar, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of cayenne if you want extra heat. Whisk until well combined. If you prefer, you can substitute a store-bought fajita seasoning packet.

Add the seasoning to the chicken and vegetables, tossing until everything is evenly coated. Arrange the mixture in a single layer in the air fryer basket. It’s fine if pieces touch, but avoid significant overlap. Depending on your air fryer size you may need to cook in batches.
Air fry for 5 minutes, then flip the chicken and separate any pieces that have stuck together. If using an air fryer oven with multiple trays, rotate the trays after the first 5 minutes. Continue cooking another 3 to 5 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Transfer the chicken and vegetables to a tray with tongs, squeeze the juice from half a lime over the top, toss, and serve with your preferred toppings and sides.
Serving and Topping Suggestions
- Tortilla shells (corn or flour)

- Pico de gallo
- Salsa
- Guacamole
- Cilantro
- Cilantro lime rice (optional)
Enjoy! Mary

If you don’t have smoked paprika, sweet or Hungarian paprika works well. For meal prep, combine the chicken, vegetables, oil, and seasoning in the morning and refrigerate; cook when ready. For a shortcut, use a store-bought fajita seasoning packet.
