Rainbow Heart Hot Cocoa Bombs

Hot cocoa bombs—also called hot chocolate bombs—have become hugely popular because they’re fun to make and highly customizable. You can adapt colors and flavors to suit the occasion, and they’re especially cozy on cold or rainy days. Personally, I enjoy hot chocolate year-round, and these rainbow heart cocoa bombs are one of my favorites. The layered rainbow hearts are bright, comforting, and great at lifting the mood.

Making the Rainbow Heart Hot Cocoa Bombs

If you’ve made hot cocoa bombs before, this will feel familiar. If you’re new to them, don’t worry—follow the steps below and you’ll have beautiful cocoa bombs in no time.

Rainbow Heart Hot Cocoa Bombs

Start by gathering ingredients and tools. Candy melts and mini marshmallows are usually available at grocery stores and online. Use your preferred hot chocolate mix for best results. You’ll also need several piping bags (or zip-top bags with a small corner snipped off) and a diamond heart silicone mold to form the cocoa bomb halves. Melt each color in its own microwave-safe bowl before piping.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Red candy melts
  • 1/2 cup Yellow candy melts
  • 3/4 cup Bright green candy melts
  • 3/4 cup Royal blue candy melts
  • 2 cups Pink candy melts
  • 2 cups Hot chocolate mix
  • Mini rainbow marshmallows
  • White pearl sprinkles
  • Rainbow-shaped confetti

Tools

  • 5 microwave-safe bowls
  • 5 piping bags or zip-top bags with a corner snipped
  • Diamond heart silicone mold
Ingredients

Follow the instructions below for filling and assembling the molds.

Instructions

1. Place each color of candy melts in its own microwave-safe bowl. Melt according to package directions, then transfer each color into a piping bag.

2. Pipe the red candy melt into the center of each heart cavity to form a small heart shape. Repeat for all cavities.

Instructions

3. Pipe the yellow candy melt to outline the red heart, creating a second heart layer. Repeat for every mold.

4. Pipe the bright green candy melt to outline the yellow heart, then repeat for all molds.

5. Pipe the royal blue candy melt to add the next outline layer around the green heart.

6. Use the pink candy melt to fill the sides of each cavity, leaving the center open. This creates one half of the cocoa bomb shell. Repeat for all molds, then place the molds in the freezer for 5 minutes.

7. Remove the molds from the freezer and gently tap the sides, pressing on one edge to release the candy halves from the molds.

Putting the rainbow heart hot cocoa bombs together:

8. Fill six candy half-shells with 1 tablespoon of hot chocolate mix each. Add several mini rainbow marshmallows to each.

9. Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of white pearl sprinkles and a couple pieces of rainbow-shaped confetti into each filled half-shell.

10. Warm any leftover red candy melt briefly so it’s fluid, then pipe a ring of melted candy around the rim of each filled half-shell. Take an empty half-shell and gently press it over the filled half, sealing the edges together to form a complete heart cocoa bomb. Repeat for the remaining bombs.
