Start by chopping a banana into slices. There’s no precise size required — slices about the width of the top of your finger work well and are easy for little hands to hold.

Small plastic food skewer being inserted into the banana slice.

Insert a small food skewer into each banana slice. Short wooden or plastic skewers work well — I used Pick Sticks because they’re the ideal size for these pops.

Melt about 80g of chocolate — milk, dark, or white chocolate all work. A small glass or bowl is handy for melting because it gives you enough depth to dip the banana slices.

Dip each banana slice into the melted chocolate so it’s fully coated. Let any excess chocolate drip off, then place the coated slices onto a plate or small tray.

Banana slices laid out in a circle on a plate and coloured sprinkles are being added.

While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle each pop with your chosen decorations — colorful sprinkles are fun for kids. Once decorated, place the tray in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm the chocolate and freeze the banana.

After 30 minutes in the freezer the pops are ready to enjoy. They’re best eaten right after removing from the freezer, as the banana will begin to soften and lose texture as it thaws.

You can prepare these the night before and store them in the freezer overnight, but I don’t recommend keeping them frozen for more than a day if you want the best texture and flavor.

Description

A fun summer snack to make with kids: chocolate-covered frozen banana pops. Simple to prepare and great for little helpers.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 banana
  • 80g chocolate (milk, dark or white)
  • 1 tbsp sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Chop the banana into slices about the width of the top of your finger.
  2. Insert a small food skewer into each slice.
  3. Melt the chocolate — a small glass or bowl makes dipping easier.
  4. Dip each slice into the melted chocolate to coat it, then transfer to a plate or tray.
  5. Add sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.
  6. Freeze for 30 minutes, then serve.

Notes

These pops are at their best immediately after removal from the freezer. As they thaw the banana softens, so plan to serve them right away.

You can prepare them the night before and keep them frozen overnight, but avoid making them too far in advance to maintain texture and flavor.
